Software And Hardware Firewalls
Our dedicated chat servers must be able to talk to your computer during a chat session. In addition, Bummer Hosting servers
also need to download a chat applet to your computer. So, if you can't get on our chat pages, a firewall may very well
be blocking access to your computer! Please make sure your firewall is configured to allow www.BummerChat.com to
talk to your computer.
Browser Upgrades And SupportMost internet browsers will get partially corrupted over time.
As a result, they may work fine on some Java chat rooms and not work on others. There may also be other browser functions
that won't work either. As time goes, all internet browsers will slowly get worse. It's at this time, we recommend
that you upgrade to the latest browser. Once you do, you'll find that surfing the internet will be faster. You may also
find that you have a lot more surfing options than you did before!
The Bummer Hosting Chat Client is a Java applet which can be accessed with any Java 1.1 enabled browser, such as Netscape
Communicator 4.08+ or Internet Explorer 4+. For the best experience we recommend that you upgrade to the
latest browser version available.
You can download the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Mozilla, or Netscape:
Install The Latest Java
Bummer Chat uses a Java applet that can be accessed with any Java-enabled browser, such as Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari,
Mozilla, Netscape Communicator 6, and higher. For the best experience, we recommend that you upgrade to the latest
browser version available. Some early Microsoft Java implementations shipped with Windows 95/98 and
Windows XP are not 100% Java compatible and may cause connection problems. No matter what OS or version you are running
on your computer, we strongly recommend you download the latest version of Java for your operating
system below.
Windows: To ensure that you are fully-functional, we strongly recommend that you get the latest version of Sun’s
Java plug-in. Sun Microsystems is the creator of Java. Their free and easy to install plug-in will let you enjoy the best
of Bummer Hosting, and other Java applications as well. Get Sun's Java Plug-In Here!
Mac OS X: For best performance with your Mac, we recommend downloading and installing
Safari
as well as the latest version of Apple’s Java Plug-in.
Reporting Problems
When the chat client applet fails for some reason, the browser will often display an error message that contains
important information about the source of the failure. The error message is either displayed on the status bar,
the Java Console or both. Bummer Hosting Chat Client uses the Java Console to print out debugging information as well,
so look at it to get a full description of the error. Copy and paste it's contents in an email
and send it to us.
To open the Java Console:
Internet Explorer: "View -> Java Console"
Netscape Navigator: "Navigator -> Tools -> Java Console"
Mozilla: "Navigator -> Tools -> Java Console"
To enable Internet Explorer's Java Console go to 'Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced' and scroll down to 'Microsoft VM'.
Then check the 'Java console enabled' checkbox and restart IE.
